Reconstructing the Geometry of the Yushu Fault in the Tibetan Plateau Using TLS, GPR and Trenching

Although geomorphic evidence and shallow geometry of active faults are significant for the understanding assessing fault activity seismic hazards, it is challenging to acquire high-resolution topographic data Yushu by conventional methods. Here, we present a case study reconstruct detailed surficial subsurface using terrestrial laser scanning (TLS), multi-frequency ground penetrating radar (GPR) trenching. TLS was suitable measuring three-dimensional (3D) fault. GPR surveys with different frequency antennas (25 MHz, 100 250 MHz 500 MHz) were conducted image at depths spatial resolutions. The typical groove landscape, parallel surface traces fault, clearly observed on TLS-derived data. A ~40 m width narrow system three identified profiles. Furthermore, F1 F2 supposed be boundary but sinistral-lateral strike-slip normal component, while F3 inferred as secondary western trench section, despite limited investigation depth (~2 m), well consistent result, especially in location F2. Finally, 3D model established from offering multi-sensor multi-view characterize understand fault’s kinematics characteristics.
